Reader Comments on The Joy of Realizing That This Place Is Hell

by Greg Mackie. Read the article.

Greg

I could not agree more with your statement, "There's nothing like recognizing just how bad the disease is to make you really want the cure." I, for one, completely agree with your self-described "article from hell." My fiance hung herself on Valentine's Day two years after my brother (and best friend) committed suicide. These and other painful experiences I needn't go into took me to the verge of suicide on three occasions. For many, many years all I wanted most was to get out of this hell-hole of a world. I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for the Course.

In Chapter 23, Jesus asks what could be a disturbing question if we haven't embraced what you so adequately depicted in your article. He asks, "Can you paint rosy lips upon a skeleton, dress it in loveliness, pet it and pamper it, and make it live? And can you be content with an illusion that you are living?"

I'm glad you put the paint can away in your article. Jesus continually asks us to take off our rose-colored glasses and look at the world exactly as it is and for what it is. You've reinforced his teachings in your article, and quite well.

Thank you,

Greg,

I loved reading your article "The Joy of Realizing That This Place is Hell". Ironically enough I haven't read anything so inspiring to me in quite some time (actually since reading the UR text a few days ago).

Just the title sends joy throughout my entire being.

Like you said "There's nothing like recognizing just how bad the disease is to make you really want the cure.". And thank goodness that I know that there is a cure and that something better really exists and has always existed.

Thank you!!
Sincerely,
