Forget all things except My changeless Love
July 18, 2006
If you haven't read Helen Schucman's poetry collection entitled The Gifts of God, I highly recommend it. In addition to many beautiful poems by Helen, it contains a marvelous scribed message from Jesus, also called "The Gifts of God." For me, this final message is one of the most beautiful and inspiring messages in all the Course material.
In the final section of "The Gifts of God," entitled "The Father's Love," Jesus says that each of us has a "secret place" within us where God's Love abides and all His gifts are laid. It isn't secret because God has hidden it from us; rather, it is secret because we have covered it up with our attraction to things of the world. "It is hidden to the body's eyes, and to those still invested in the world and caring for the petty gifts it gives, esteeming them and thinking they are real." Our only real function in this world, Jesus tells us, is to set aside the "gifts" of this world and let the Love contained within this secret place burst out and embrace everyone and everything:
O be at peace, beloved of the Lord! What is your life but gratitude to Him Who loves you with an everlasting Love? What is your purpose here but to recall into His loving Arms the Son He loves, who has forgotten Who his Father is? What is your only goal, your only hope, your only need, the only thing you want, but to allow the secret place of peace to burst upon the world in all its joy, and let the Voice within it speak of Him Whose love shines out and in and in-between, through all the darkened places to embrace all living things within its golden peace?
This paragraph has been the focus of my meditations this past week. I find it so easy to get caught up in the things of the world, but deep down I know they will never make me happy. There is a deep yearning in me to open up this secret place and love as I have never loved before. In my meditations, I have offered up my willingness to God to let this secret place be revealed and let His Love stream forth from me to every living thing. As "The Gifts of God" concludes, God Himself calls all of us to remember the secret place, and He promises that the day will come when the Love within that place will shine forth in all its glory:
Do not forget. Do not forget, My child. Open the door before the hidden place, and let Me blaze upon a world made glad in sudden ecstasy. I come, I come. Behold Me. I am here for I am You; in Christ, for Christ, My Own beloved Son, the glory of the infinite, the joy of Heaven and the holy peace of earth, returned to Christ and from His hand to Me. Say now Amen, my Son, for it is done. The secret place is open now at last. Forget all things except My changeless Love. Forget all things except that I am here.
